Government Agencies… Urrrrgh!

After a bad nights sleep, Farrel actually getting up on his own, thanks to his new iPhone alarm,  and catching the bus.  Mabel missing the bus and then finally Blu safely on the bus… I drank my coffee wearily back in bed and nursed Florence until she fell back to sleep.  I contemplated sleeping with her in my bed, but then changed my mind… Of course she woke up as I put her in her rocker… But super Jord to the rescue, he very kindly took her so I could get a couple of hours of a very weird kind of sleep, as it turned out!

What is it about government agencies, wether you are here in the USA or back in the UK, they have to make everything difficult, and everything just seems to be so slow!  Today I took Farrel into Newton to get his driving permit, well what I thought would be a simple task ended up being a two part process… First of all we had to go to three separate people for one simple piece of paperwork, the whole thing took 40 minutes… And now, wait for it, we have to drive to Randolf over 20 minutes away to verify the permit we were given today… Crazy or what?

After we got part of Farrels permit we headed to Marshall’s for a quick shopping trip, quick, i hear you cry, Marshalls is never a quick shopping trip!  Farrel needed a case for his new iPhone… Knowing him it will be in the toilet like he did with his last phone or even worse, so it was in desperate need of some kind of protection, and Mabel has decided she wants home lunch 3 times a week now, so she needs a lunch bag of course… No brown bagging for my daughter, unlike her brother, who likes to dispose of his lunch stuff at school, so he doesn’t have to carry it around with him!

Dinner time is always fun in our house, as usual I am a one man band… Preparing and cooking dinner, which tonight was sausage, green beans and potato soup with warm pilsbury rolls, then packing the lunches for the next day, emptying the dishwasher and then refilling it… All this, while Florence fussed in the background, because she was very tired!

Tonight I had decided to try something new with Florence in the vain hope of getting a good night sleep… So I allowed her a one hour nap between 6 and 7, then my plan was to keep her awake until 9.30 so she was exhausted and would sleep through the night.  Florence on the other hand, had other plans… She barely made it til 8.30, then nursed on and off until 10… She did sleep a little better, but she still woke a few times in the night… I’m just not sure what to do with her…She just loves to be cuddled!

What’s for dinner tonight in your house?

Ours was Sausage and potato soup with green beans , this serves 4-6 people, I doubled the quantities as I wanted it for lunch tomorrow also :

3 medium yukon gold potatoes, cut into 1-inch pieces

1 (12-ounce) package Kielbasa pork sausage or cooked chicken sausage, cut into 1/2-inch slices (I used chicken and apple sausages from Costco, so yummy!)

1 (16-ounce) bag frozen cut green beans

4 cups chicken broth

2 bay leaves

Salt and pepper to taste

Put potatoes, sausage, green beans, broth, bay leaves, and salt and pepper into a large pot and slowly bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, until potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and serve…

This is one of Farrel’s favorite soups, I think it’s the apple in the sausages give the soup a delicious flavor, he just loves it!
